Today’s Debt Crusher Spotlight is on Monique Flament, a wife and proud mom from Maryland who knows quite a bit about getting her side hustle on.  While working in Corporate America, she got started with real estate investing and eventually amassed over $2 million dollars in rental properties before suffering (along with thousands of other investors) the housing market crash.

Monique and her husband didn’t let a housing crash keep them from moving forward. Over the past 3 years they have eliminated over a million dollars in debt.  I love the sticktoitiveness of this family during difficult times. Many would’ve given up, but the Flament family simply regrouped, focused, sacrificed, and moved forward with their dream of debt freedom and financial freedom.

Today’s Debt Crusher Spotlight is on Eileen Meyer, a busy wife and mother of 3 young children (ages 7, 6, and 4) who works a full time job at a hospital with a 2.5 hour daily commute roundtrip.

Although Eileen’s husband was recently laid off from his job, together they have managed to sacrifice, get their side hustle on (by flipping real estate), and pay off $50K in debt!

Dave Ramsey’s Total Money Makeover Will NOT Make Your Job Optional

I know the title of this post may be shocking to many and even blasphemous to fans of Dave Ramsey’s teaching.

Before I get into the details of why I believe that the Total Money Makeover will NOT make your job optional, I want to start off by sharing that I really do like Dave Ramsey.

  • I used Dave Ramsey materials to introduce concepts of earning, spending, saving, and giving with my oldest daughter when she was 7 years old.
  • I’ve used his Generation Change program with pre-teens to help teach them about stewardship, credit, debt, and budgeting.
  • I’ve read The Total Money Makeover 3 times.
  • I have his Entreleadership book sitting on my desk (haven’t read it yet, but plan to as soon as I can).
  • I’m a huge fan of debt freedom and that’s what Dave is all about!

(I think with that intro, the Dave Ramsey fans can put their stones away!)

How To Know When To Quit Your Job

Since quitting my own 9-to-5 back in April 2010, I often am asked “How do I know when to quit my job?“

The truth is that the answer is really different for everyone, but here are 5 important factors to consider as you’re thinking about taking the leap.

The “Significant Other” Test

If you’re single and only have yourself to support, you’ve pretty much passed this test already, but if you are engaged to be married or already married (with or without children), you probably already know that quitting your job is not just your decision.  If you didn’t know this already….well, now you do (and you can’t say that you weren’t warned!).
