Sacrifice

A number of recent conversations I’ve had served as fuel for today’s post which may come off a little bit as a rant (and I’m ok with that).

If you want to make a job an option rather than a necessity, you’re going to have to make some sacrifices.  In fact, you may even have to sacrifice at a level that is not comfortable for you at all.

Dave Ramsey always says “If you will live like no one else, then later you get to LIVE like no one else!” I’ve also heard someone say that sacrifice is the currency you pay to get what you want.  There are other types of currency too, but sacrifice is definitely one of them.  The excuses of “not enough money, not enough time, not enough information” are just that….excuses. If you don’t really want it, that’s fine, but don’t fool yourself for months or even years making excuses for why you’re not making progress.

December 31, 2012 — I’ve known this day was coming, yet it still seemed to sneak up on me so quickly.  This year has definitely had its challenges, but it has also had many triumphs and I can honestly say that I’m grateful for all of them.

As we’re closing out 2012 and moving into a new year, I want to share a few things with you. Personal lessons that I either learned or re-learned (because you know sometimes you have to learn things more than once!) and I hope that it’s useful to you. Here we go:

I started the Freedom Chaser Spotlight here on ChasingYourFreedom.com because I remember how important it was to me to be inspired while I was side hustling and knocking out tens of thousands of dollars of debt.  It’s always nice to see proof that you’re not alone, right?

Today’s spotlight is on Carey Buck, and I can tell you from personal experience that this woman is a go-getter!  Seriously, go look up go-getter in the dictionary and you’ll see a picture that looks like the one over to your right.

Carey knows quite a bit about what it takes to build a business while working full time, and she’s done an outstanding job thanks to her perseverance, willingness to ask for assistance, and the support of her loved ones.  Carey successfully made her job optional by building multiple income streams through her independent ATM business as well as teaching others how to do the same.  Check out the interview below to learn more. Enjoy!

I know the title of this post may be shocking to many and even blasphemous to fans of Dave Ramsey’s teaching.

Before I get into the details of why I believe that the Total Money Makeover will NOT make your job optional, I want to start off by sharing that I really do like Dave Ramsey.

  • I used Dave Ramsey materials to introduce concepts of earning, spending, saving, and giving with my oldest daughter when she was 7 years old.
  • I’ve used his Generation Change program with pre-teens to help teach them about stewardship, credit, debt, and budgeting.
  • I’ve read The Total Money Makeover 3 times.
  • I have his Entreleadership book sitting on my desk (haven’t read it yet, but plan to as soon as I can).
  • I’m a huge fan of debt freedom and that’s what Dave is all about!

(I think with that intro, the Dave Ramsey fans can put their stones away!)

Fighting Complacency – An Interview with Adam Baker

“Hey, how are you?”

“I’m fine, thanks.”

“How’s your job going?”

“It’s ok. Can’t complain.”

Do these polite exchanges sound familiar to you?  Adam Baker (aka Baker), founder of ManVsDebt.com and his good friend Grant Peelle are looking to eliminate those phrases from the our vocabulary and are starting a movement of people who are tired of complacency and mediocrity.

I learned about Baker and Peele’s soon to be released documentary called “I’m Fine, Thanks” over on ManVsDebt several months ago before they started traveling across North America to do the filming.  Now that the release date is coming up quickly in July, I really wanted to have Baker share this project with the Freedom Chasers community plus share his experience as a brand new film maker.

Helping Kids To Make Jobs An Option (Not a Necessity)

This mom has a huge smile on her face right now.  My 11 year old daughter made her first sale online yesterday AND she is unveiling her blog today to the public –> AnisaSellsYourStuff.com .  Her blog is essentially the story of her first business. She is sharing her adventures as well as providing helpful tips (her lessons learned) for other kids who want to start a business.

One of the things you may not know about me is that I have a real passion for working with young people when it comes to helping them figure out how money works and encouraging entrepreneurship as soon as possible.  On the first Saturday of each month, I lead a Financially Fit workshop for preteens and teens at our church.  During Spring Break last month, I had the honor of teaching two days of the Billionaire’s Club (an initiative started by a friend of mine) and taught 10-13 year olds on stewardship and entrepreneurship. It was so much fun!

Accountability Partnerships: Your Secret Weapon To Success

Posted by Shae in Inspiration, Success Principles | 5 Comments

written by Shae Bynes, Founder of ChasingYourFreedom.com

An accountability partnership is partnership where two (or more) people work cooperatively to keep each other on course towards achieving life goals. Those goals could be business/career related, personal, or both!

It was 3 years ago when one of my best friends and I decided to be accountability partners. We were both side hustling while working high-paying but unfulfilling full-time corporate jobs.  We wanted more for ourselves and our families and figured we’d make better and faster progress by holding each other accountable to achieve the things we desire….not just with our businesses, but with life overall.  We were right.

Still today, there are a few people I speak to on either a weekly or bi-weekly basis who really keep me on track (and I do the same for them).

Accountability partnerships have been a total game changer for me for a number of reasons:
